I have been on a chai-induced high over the past week. I have dipped my toes into fall baking and I am more than a little excited about the return of chilly mornings.

I'M SO HAPPY!!
I have been holding in my autumnal enthusiasm for as long as I could stand. I've ordered a new sweatshirt and it's only a matter of time before I start making these and these and oh yes, definitely these.
I am really sorry if you find this exuberance obnoxious, but if you will bear with me I promise to resist rolling my eyes when you wear flip-flops in March. Deal?
I looked in the mirror a few minutes ago and it was really...hazy. This was odd because I had just cleaned said mirror less than twenty-four hours prior to this realization. Then the horrible thought occurred to me that perhaps it was my eyes that were hazy and not the mirror itself. I looked closer. “It does not look dirty…,” I mentally noted. "Oh gosh, I have an eye disease. I should start frantically googling eye diseases to see how soon I will meet my imminent end. No, wait...we do not go there. Been there before. Cried over my own imaginary funeral. Angrily thought of Mr. Pedantic remarrying. Composed a hit list of his possible replacement wives. Not going back. We are above that nonsense.”
Now I am writing this post and still wondering if I am going blind. If so, it is likely because I do not clean my makeup brushes. Oops. No judgement please, I am far too busy insta-storying.
Can I tell you another lil’ secret? I re-watch all my own stories, sometimes multiple times, and often with Mr. Pedantic. It makes me feel like I am on television. I like to call it, "The Ashlyn Show." My six-year-old self who used to pretend like she was on Martha Stewart during bath time would be very impressed at how far I have come.
Speaking of that domestic goddess... Dear Martha, how how do you do it? “With three assistants and a driver, that’s how, you peasant.” Please, just stop.
This is and always will be my fall drink.
I picked up a tiny travel bottle of this body mist a couple weeks ago and I have just started using it over the past several days. Oh my goodness, I wish I could get this scent in perfume because I LOVE IT!
News that only five of you care about: I am finally dying my hair. Like, I made the appointment. It is on the calendar and I am pretty freaking excited because I have talked about taking the plunge every fall for the past six years and chickened out. This year, I was determined to be brave and just do the darn thing. So…pictures soon.
I have suddenly discovered that I very much need a concrete espresso maker. My Christmas list may be a bit more eccentric this year. And definitely impractical, but I’m a millennial so…what did you expect?
I think I am going to cry. This is the theme park of my dreams.
I heard the words “designer fruit” this week and it made me a little nauseas. I will take my grapes grape-flavored, thankyouverymuch. I just know that this craziness goes back to unicorns somehow.
What are you up to this weekend? We are taking it easy for the first time in a very long while and I am looking forward to some much needed home time. Mostly so I can binge watch these adorable children say very adorable things while I continue to battle against the ever-constant stream of laundry.
Happy Friday!
Sincerely,
Pedantic Foodie
There’s a little something I do. It’s a habit of sorts, but, unlike most of my habits, this is one I strive to maintain rather than suppress.
The boxes are beginning to pile up, the paint has been purchased, and a sense of transition mingles with the comfort of my pumpkin-scented candles.
I love when Mr. Pedantic suggests that we pull through that magical drive-thru to pay an obscene amount of money for a white and green cup with a scribbled interpretation of my name that only holds what I actually ordered a solid fifty percent of the time.
We complain to each other about the atrocious service and celebrate when the drink actually tastes as it should - a thing which some misinformed members of society might believe to be compulsory - but time and time again I long for that truly American experience. I have no doubt that $4.75 of my $5.00 goes to pay for just that, the experience, and gosh I do love it.
Last week I invited some of my favorite ladies over to paint pumpkins and now I am going to try to convince you do to the same. It might be the easiest party you ever throw, and we have snacks and glitter so I really do not know why you would not want to hop on this Pinteresty bandwagon.
R E C E N T L Y ...
I love that my generation has taken a hold of snacks and made them into not only a socially-acceptable mode of daily nutrition but a hallowed one. If you're not entirely sure of the current snack pseudonyms, see; charcuterie, tapas, tastings, flights…
Welled-up hope, excitement, and tears preluded this momentous brunch which now feels so much the culmination of them all. ONE seems to signify the realness of this charmed existence as mother, daughter, family. Our Eivelyn Blair has completed us.
A tale of recipe conception…
It had been a long day and all I really wanted was some quality couch time with the Bon Appetit test kitchen. Whatever plans I had in mind for dinner were soon diminished by more slothful desires for all things lazy and cozy.
Before the generation of iPhones and Pinteresty chalkboard signs, my siblings and I had one very special back-to-school tradition.
